The EC Consort

The Edwinson Consort is my middle-sized guitar, equivalent to the 000 or OM size designation, with a lower bout width of  15 inches. I designed the Consort to be primarily a fingerstyle guitar, but it is quite versatile, and can be optimized for any playing style.

First-generation Consort guitars were all built with twelve frets to the body, twenty total, and most fingerboards were wider, vintage style, as preferred by many fingerstyle players. More recent versions have the neck/ body joint at the thirteenth fret, which brings the top bracing and the bridge forward slightly, and gives a little extra reach up the fingerboard.

The string spread at bridge saddle can range from 2 3/16” to 2 1/4” to  2 5/16”, and the hand carved neck can be shaped to vintage or modern profiles.

Both the twelve- and thirteen-fret configurations sound astoundingly good. There’s really something special about guitars in this size class--an incredibly lively, musical, colorful vibe that never fails to amaze and delight both players and listeners. The Consort is also very ergonomic, comfortable to hold and play for long stretches.

The Consort has been, so far,  my most popular model, although the other ones are holding their own too. Almost all Consorts so far have been Venetian style (rounded) cutaways. But I also build them in Standard (non-cutaway) and Florentine (pointy) style cutaway versions.

This model is also highly amenable to multiscale configurations, with a medium scale spread--such as 25 inch to 25.75 inch. This scale length range is splendid for an open-tuning fingerstyle instrument. Shorter or longer scale spreads are also available, for a very high degree of functional optimization for the discerning player.

The EC Consort guitar is probably the most versatile model in the Edwinson lineup, as it embodies the very best characteristics of both the smaller and the larger models. I’ve never built two of them precisely the same, and perhaps never will.

You will find a list of general specifications for the EC Consort guitar at the bottom of this page.
