The ES 75  Siren

The Edwinson ES 75 Siren is a non-cutaway Standard, small-bodied guitar with a great big soul. Not exactly a Parlour guitar, or an 0-size, the Siren is a lot of guitar in a small package. Not only do these little guitars put out a surprising amount of volume, especially for their size, they also sound rich, colorful, and complex. This guitar is definitely NOT a toy. I designed the Siren to be a full-fledged concert instrument, no shortcuts or compromises.

An extra benefit of its small size (13 1/4” wide in the lower bout) is that this guitar also makes a great traveling companion. The Siren can be safely stowed in the overhead bin on any airplane, so you’re never at the mercy of savage baggage handlers.

This is a relatively new addition to the Edwinson tribe, debuting in late 2009. Right after I introduced the Siren, it became quite popular, and I built several of them in a row, on commission. The reviews from their owners were unanimously and enthusiastically positive. These guitars are a ridiculous amount of fun to play, and such a pleasure to hear.

The standard ES 75 Siren has 13 frets to the body, twenty total. Available scale lengths range from 23” to 25”. I can build the Siren with numerous custom options, such as a Delta or Pogoda style headstock, a Talon or Element style bridge, or even in twelve or fourteen frets to the body, in addition to the standard thirteen.

The Siren guitar is named for those mythical creatures in Homer’s Iliad who sang with such ravishing sweetness that they would lure hapless mariners to their demise, crashing on the rocky shore. This guitar is aptly named, except that there is no danger in playing one, or listening to the sweet music...

Of special note on the ES 75 Siren and EF75 Falcon guitar models:

The question has often come up, “What is the difference between the Falcon and the Siren?” It is true, the Falcon and the Siren are the same size, and except for the Falcon’s cutaway, they are the same shape. But when I was first designing these guitars, I intended for them to be closely related, but distinct models. The Falcon was the short-scale (23”), with twelve frets to the body. It was to have a shallow-ish body (4” deep in the waist), and of course, the Falcon had a distinctive, postmodern Florentine cutaway.

The first Siren guitar was a longer-scale, 24”, thirteen frets-to-body, non-cutaway, 4 1/4” deep body guitar, and my intent was to give it a more traditional, early 20th-century styling, as a contrast to the post-modern verve of the Falcon.

That was the original intent, anyway.

But pretty soon, I started mixing it up, and putting Falcon features on Sirens, and vice versa. My clients wanted the Falcon with the longer scale and deeper body, and so on. And so the Siren and Falcon became inextricably entwined in a Taoist embrace. I have not been able to pry the two apart, since the early days of their inception.

They are the same model. But they are like fraternal twins too. To me, they will always be the Falcon AND the Siren.

I still give these two iterations of this guitar their own names, simply because that’s how I think of them. One style of this guitar has become the Falcon, and the other is the Siren.

I hope that clears up any confusion.

Now, onward to the...
